A fine way to pick out the best affiliate program to promote for your own pay per click campaign is to see what other advertisers are promoting.
So let’s look at the movie downloads market for an example of how to do this.
First we think about the obvious keywords that people might type into search engines to find movies online. I came up with ‘movie downloads’, download movie’ ‘watch movies online’ and ‘downloadable movies’.
I type each one of these keywords in turn into Google (or Spyfu.com) and look at each of the Pay Per Click ads to see if they are promoting an affiliate product and if they are noted down as which one they are promoting.
This gives us a good overview of what the most popular affiliate programs for a particular market are. As we have looked at several keywords and the same affiliate programs keep popping up, we can be pretty sure that these products are selling well and making people money.
I have created a list of the most promoted products in the movie downloads market from researching movie download keywords. Now I’m not sure if it is the same people promoting on the different keywords, but this is the list I have created nonetheless:

This list is very interesting as you can see just how many movie download affiliate programs there are, and there are bound to be plenty more too, but these are the ones that people are promoting.
If I decided to enter this market I would promote Cinema Now as this site appears the most on the pay per click ads. Although I would certainly look at the home pages of all the other sites to see if any others appealed to me.
Unlike the paid survey market, most of the movie download affiliates use a direct linking campaign, rather than a review site. I found two review sites when doing this search – one looked very amateurish and the other seemed to have forgotten to put the links to the actual movie download sites they were reviewing, which leaves a gapping big hole for you to exploit.
People like to follow the leader and there is no shame in this – why try to re-invent the wheel? So promote the most popular product first, but try to be a little different in how you approach it like having a landing page pay per click campaign instead of a direct link campaign.
